Community for a Reason

The MHC Community Photographer Project:

Before officially launching Daydream Photography, I had already been capturing the heart of our community through my lens. However, becoming a business owner opened my eyes to a lot of things. One thing in particular was how many small businesses were in our area. Secondly I discovered a gap in how no one was taking time to showcase our community and what it had to offer.  That is when I took the initiative to become a community based photographer.t This business became the catalyst for even greater opportunities—photographing some of the very first events in MHC, collaborating with small businesses and local organizations, and launching the community’s first-ever photography feature, Martinsville Mondays. These projects—and many more to come—are dedicated to showcasing the spirit, beauty, and people of this vibrant area, highlighting the town I have grown up in and show everyone what truly makes Martinsville a “City Without Limits.”

Special Needs in MHC

creating acceptance and showcasing the celebration of all abilities

I’ve had the privilege of working with many incredible special needs families and organizations within our community. We’re fortunate to have a growing network of resources, including the PHS Autism Center, Da Capo VA, the Pediatric Center, and many others. We’re also blessed with passionate educators like Ms. Bragg, Mrs. Judkins, and so many more who go above and beyond every day.

Our local police department has even joined in to raise money and awareness for the special needs community here in MHC. Each year, I proudly volunteer as the photographer for Stone Memorial Christian Church as they host Night to Shine at NCI—a prom experience dedicated to giving individuals with special needs a night they’ll never forget.

While we’ve made great strides, there is still much work to be done in advocating for our special needs community and the families within it. As a father to a nonverbal autistic child, this mission is deeply personal, and I remain committed with many others on shining a light on the importance of inclusion, visibility, and support. Through my lens, I tell the stories and showcase the beauty of all abilities.
