Bringing the Spirit of Halloween to Every Child
In a town known for its charm and close-knit community, a unique blend of horror, heart, and hope has taken root. The Maskoween Project, founded by husband-and-wife duo Corey and Angela Agee in August 2023, is proving that even the spookiest season can bring out the brightest light.
What began as a simple idea inspired by their shared love of all things creepy, crawly, and Halloween-related has grown into a children’s charity organization that’s changing the way Martinsville and Henry County celebrate October. The Maskoween Project’s mission is beautifully simple: to ensure that every child—especially those who are less fortunate has a Halloween costume of their very own.
Each year, the organization works tirelessly to collect monetary donations and donated costumes from the community. Those contributions are then distributed to local children, allowing them to fully experience the fun and imagination that Halloween brings. Whether it’s dressing up for a school event or heading out to trick-or-treat, these kids get to be part of the excitement and feel the same joy as everyone else.
For Corey and Angela, this mission is deeply personal.
“We’ve always loved the Halloween season and the happiness it brings to people of all ages,” Corey shared. “We wanted to take that passion and turn it into something that could make a difference—something that would help every child experience the magic of Halloween, no matter their situation.”
That dream became a reality in 2023 when The Maskoween Project distributed its first batch of costumes to children at The Barrow Center. Seeing the excitement in those young faces and the pride in the parents’ eyes was all the motivation they needed to keep growing their vision.
Jason Lives Fan Day
Not long after, The Maskoween Project took their spooky spirit to another level. In September 2025, they hosted their first-ever celebrity appearance event, Camp Lee Ford – Jason Lives Fan Day. Horror fans flocked to meet C.J. Graham, best known for portraying Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. The event was more than just a celebration of horror—it was a community gathering that combined fun, fandom, and fundraising, helping further the group’s mission. The success of that event inspired Corey and Angela to keep pushing forward. They’ve announced plans to host a spooky celebrity appearance event every October, expanding The Maskoween Project’s reach and creating new opportunities to raise awareness and support for their cause.
Beyond the costumes and events, what makes The Maskoween Project truly special is the heart behind it. It’s about inclusion, creativity, and community—about reminding everyone that Halloween isn’t just for those who can afford elaborate costumes or decorations. It’s for every child who dreams of being a superhero, a monster, a princess, or a ghost for one night of magic.
When asked what legacy they hope to leave behind, Corey and Angela didn’t hesitate.
