One Joyful Brushstroke at a Time: Maci’s Mission to Inspire

Joyful Canvas Facepaint by Maci

1 / 1

There’s a book I’ve read that has become my all-time favorite — The Alchemist. At the heart of the story is the idea of a “Personal Legend,” which refers to a person’s true purpose in life — the one thing they are uniquely destined to achieve. Our youth is often where these dreams are born, when imagination runs wild, our hearts feel free, and we begin to discover who we are meant to become. We cling tightly to those dreams, hoping to keep them alive as we grow.

This is the story of Maci Penn — owner of Joyful Canvas Facepaint by Maci — a shining example that dreams aren’t just wishes or fleeting hopes. They can become reality and, in doing so, spark joy and transformation in the lives of others.

Maci began offering face painting services in the spring of 2024 and officially launched her business in 2025. But her journey didn’t start there — it traces back to her early childhood, when she first fell in love with face painting.

“I’ve been drawing on my face and body for as long as I can remember,” Maci shared. “My mom even has hilarious photos of me as a little kid, proudly showing off my Crayola marker masterpieces.” Seeing her daughter’s creativity, Maci’s supportive mom invested in body-safe tattoo pens, giving Maci the tools to safely explore her passion. From there, her fascination with body art only grew.

“It’s been a part of who I am for as long as I can remember,” Maci said. “Starting this business to share that joy and creativity with others just felt like my true calling &  the most fun job imaginable!”

Through face and body painting, Maci was uncovering her Personal Legend — her purpose. But what she’s offering is more than just art on skin — it’s joy, connection, and confidence. “Joyful” isn’t just a catchy name in her business title. It’s the essence of what she brings to every event — bursts of color, energy, and magic that, even when the paint is washed off, leave a lasting impression.

From festivals and birthday parties to community events, Maci adds her special touch with vibrant, often freehanded designs — something she takes great pride in. Every brushstroke is unique, and the care she puts into her art is nothing short of inspiring. Even while deeply focused, she remains attentive and present in conversation, listening to every word as she transforms ideas into living art. Watching her paint is like witnessing a quiet kind of magic unfold in real time.

When asked about her proudest moment, Maci replied, “Every single time I see the joy on someone’s face after I’ve finished painting them. Whether it’s a colorful design on their cheek, a cool character on their arm, or a delicate pattern on their hand — that moment when they look in the mirror and smile... that’s everything to me.”

And she means it. It’s not just the bold, bright colors that light up a room — it’s the spark in her clients’ eyes and the shared happiness that radiates from Maci in those small, powerful moments.

The Art of Expecting

Each brushstroke is filled with love and intention

Most recently, Maci approached me with an incredible idea: The Art of Expecting. Her vision was to collaborate on a special maternity experience — one that gives expecting mothers the chance to celebrate their pregnancy in a creative, deeply personal way. Through custom belly painting sessions, Maci creates designs that reflect each mother’s story, giving them a beautiful, one-of-a-kind keepsake to treasure forever. Every design is a moment of celebration, a pause in time — where joy, love, and art meet to create something unforgettable.

Impacting the youth

a business beyond a community impact

At just 13 years old, Maci is already making a lasting impact. She’s the youngest entrepreneur I know, and her story is one of the most inspiring I’ve come across. With the loving support of her mom, Carol Anne, Maci continues to dream big, create beauty, and give back. Together, they’ve also joined the efforts of the MHC Trash Pandas, volunteering their time to help clean up and care for our community.

Maci’s journey is living proof that when dreams are nurtured, they can grow into something powerful — something that brings happiness, purpose, and meaning. She’s not only discovered her Personal Legend — she’s living it, one joyful brushstroke at a time.

Her dedication and work ethic at such a young age are a true inspiration to today’s youth. She shows that it’s possible to discover your passion early and pursue your dreams with courage and heart. But Maci’s impact goes far beyond just young people — her art brings smiles, hope, and joy to everyone who encounters it. She’s already building a legacy.

“I want to be remembered for the special memories I help create,” Maci says. “Every face painted, every airbrush tattoo applied, and especially every painted belly in a maternity photo session is a unique moment of celebration. I want my art to be part of people’s happiest times — giving them beautiful keepsakes and a fun experience they’ll look back on and treasure forever. Beyond the art itself, I hope my journey as a 13-year-old starting an LLC inspires other young entrepreneurs. If I can turn my passion for drawing on myself into a real business, complete with an LLC, then anything is possible! I want my business to be a testament to the idea that you're never too young to start chasing your dreams. Don’t be afraid to take that leap, learn as you go, and turn what you love into something amazing.”

Personally, I couldn’t have said it any better myself.

Thank you, Maci, for being you — for being an inspiration and a powerful force of impact in this community.
