When Rosalynn opened Rosalynn’s HeARTeries in 2025, she wasn’t just launching a watercolor business—she was stepping into a calling that had quietly been forming for years. Rooted in a lifelong love of animals and nurtured by a deep creative spirit, her work blends fine art with heartfelt storytelling, preserving the personalities and legacies of beloved pets one brushstroke at a time.
Rosalynn is a watercolor artist who specializes in custom pet portraits. From loyal dogs and curious cats to a variety of other cherished companions, she offers portraits in multiple sizes and styles to reflect each client’s vision. In addition to pet portraits, she also accepts commissions across a range of subjects and artistic approaches, making her work both personal and versatile. Each painting is handcrafted with care, designed not just to resemble a pet, but to capture its spirit.
Her journey as an artist began long before her business officially opened. Rosalynn has been an animal lover for as long as she can remember. Growing up surrounded by a wide variety of pets, she describes her childhood as magical—filled with companionship, imagination, and the unique bond that forms between humans and animals. At the same time, her creativity was being carefully nurtured by her grandparents, who encouraged her artistic interests and helped her see art as something worth pursuing seriously.
That encouragement followed her into adulthood. She graduated from North Carolina State University in 2016 with a degree in Arts Studies, equipping her with both technical skills and a deeper understanding of artistic expression. Today, she balances many roles: wife, mother to two sweet girls, stay-at-home mom, homeschool teacher, and proud dog mom to two pups. While her days are full, art remains a steady thread woven through every season of her life.
The true spark behind Rosalynn’s HeARTeries, however, came from a deeply personal loss.
Her first puppy of her own was a rescue chihuahua mix from the SPCA. He was fiercely loyal and quickly became part of the fabric of her young adult life. Tragically, he developed unexplained neurological issues, went blind at just three years old, and passed away suddenly shortly after turning four. The loss was devastating. In the midst of grief, Rosalynn found herself clinging to something tangible—she had painted his portrait while she was pregnant.
In the years following his passing, her daughter, who was only a year old when he died, would often look at the painting and talk about him. Through watercolor and paper, a connection remained. A memory was preserved. A story continued.
That experience changed everything.
A Golden Moment:
What began as a way to honor her own beloved dog slowly expanded as family and friends began requesting portraits of their pets. Word spread, commissions increased, and what started as a personal act of remembrance grew into a meaningful business. Rosalynn realized that for many families, pets are not “just animals.” They are companions through life’s milestones, steady sources of comfort, and silent witnesses to everyday moments. Capturing that bond in art became her mission.
One of her proudest milestones came in the summer of 2025 when she collaborated with Hamlet Vineyard to create a custom painting of their golden retriever, Izzy. The piece was unveiled at a reception in October, marking the first time her work was displayed in a public setting. Seeing her artwork showcased in that way was both surreal and affirming. She credits Mrs. Hamlet’s kindness and collaboration as instrumental in helping grow her commission work and expand her confidence as a professional artist.
Looking ahead, Rosalynn is eager to deepen her connection within the community. In March 2026, she will be donating a custom cat or dog portrait to the Martinsville SPCA’s auction. The opportunity feels especially meaningful given her own history with a rescue dog. She hopes the collaboration not only supports a worthy cause but also strengthens her local presence.
She is also actively seeking additional venues to display both personal and commissioned work and is open to collaborating with local businesses or participating in art shows. One goal close to her heart is entering Piedmont Arts’ Expressions show this spring—an event she hasn’t participated in since 2021. While her travel availability is somewhat limited due to raising and homeschooling two children under five, she remains committed to growing her audience through social media and local networking events.
When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave, Rosalynn answers with refreshing honesty and depth. First, she hopes her artwork will allow her to pay off her student loans. While it may not sound romantic, the relief and freedom that would come from clearing that debt would mean more than words can express. Second, she wants to model perseverance, hard work, and daily reliance on God for her daughters. Owning a business was never part of her original plan, but this unexpected path has strengthened her faith in powerful ways. She also hopes to create more personal pieces that explore and reflect her faith journey.
Most importantly, she wants her portraits to preserve the legacy of the pets she paints. To someone unfamiliar, a watercolor portrait may simply look like a dog or cat. But to the owner, it represents loyalty, shared history, quiet comfort, and sometimes the memory of a friend no longer here. That enduring connection—the ability of art to hold onto love—is at the very heart of Rosalynn’s HeARTeries.
Loving and living in your HeART:
As I listened to Rosalynn share her story, I couldn’t help but think about my own dog, Dexter. Losing a pet leaves a quiet space in your life that’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. They’re there for the ordinary days—the early mornings, the long nights, the moments no one else sees. And when they’re gone, it’s not “just a dog” you’re missing. It’s a presence. A routine. A piece of your heart.
That’s why I see so much value in the work Rosalynn does.
A portrait isn’t just paint on paper. It’s a way to hold onto the details we’re afraid we might forget—the curve of their ears, the softness in their eyes, the expression that only they made. It’s a bridge between memory and the present. For families walking through loss, it becomes something steady to look at when the house feels a little quieter.

It gives us a way to revisit love, to tell stories to our children about the animals who came before them, and to keep those bonds alive in a tangible way.
