Meches Beauty Lashes and Brows located 220 Starling Ave is celebrating five years of beauty and artistry in Martinsville. Founded in 2020 by Mercedes Medrano, the business has grown into a trusted name in the community, offering specialized services in lash extensions, lash and brow enhancement, microblading, brow waxing and mapping, lash lifts and tinting, and customized lash extensions. Mercedes, a licensed cosmetologist and permanent makeup artist, brings a personalized approach to beauty, ensuring each client’s features are enhanced based on their face shape, lifestyle, and personal aesthetic.
As you would imagine, starting a business in 2020 probably was no easy feat! With the world facing unprecedented challenges due to the pandemic, many businesses struggled to stay afloat. The beauty industry, in particular, was heavily impacted by social distancing measures and restrictions. Despite these challenges, Mercedes persevered. She adapted to the circumstances, found innovative ways to continue her craft, and built a loyal clientele. Now, five years later, her resilience and dedication is what has kept Meches Beauty thriving.
“It’s almost like my form of art” Mercedes shares. “When I see a person’s face, all these lines pop up in my head, and I can see how slight adjustments can enhance a client’s natural beauty.” Her passion, combined with her ability to navigate difficult times, has solidified her success.
To commemorate this milestone, Meches Beauty is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, February 18th, from 11 AM to 5 PM. The celebration will feature walk-in brow waxing and mapping, free permanent makeup consultations, a raffle for a $100 gift certificate, and a special giveaway—a Kate Spade purse for clients who book an appointment in February. Additionally, Mercedes is excited to announce new services, including facials, brow rehab, and permanent freckles.
Beyond beauty services, Mercedes is passionate about creating a meaningful impact in Martinsville. She envisions Meches Beauty as a beacon of community support, diversity, and collaboration among local businesses, particularly those that are women-, Black-, and Latino-owned. “Martinsville is so diverse, and I want my business to reflect that—supporting local businesses and fostering a strong, inclusive community.”
