MARTINSVILLE MONDAYS:
There’s something uniquely charming about a used book and the journey it took to end up in your hands. Some arrive gently used, while others tell a more intricate story through every imperfection, wrinkle in the spine, and highlighted passage—offering a glimpse into what mattered most to someone in a particular moment of their life.
The chapters within a book invite us to explore worlds beyond our current reality, whisking us away on adventures that make us lose ourselves within their pages. This magic can be discovered at Magnolia & Main Books —a place where anyone, regardless of their budget, can afford to buy books for themselves and their children.
In a time when technology and online shopping dominate, small bookstores have become a rarity—making this one a treasure for our community. This sentiment is shared by Traci, who says, "Seeing everyone in the community come together to make the bookstore a success and a welcoming place has meant the world to me. From friends making signs, old and new friends helping decorate, donating books to get me started, and everyone encouraging me—it has been a group effort. This is exactly what I had envisioned: a place for and by the community."
Though competing with larger corporations is no easy feat, Magnolia & Main Books is finding ways to thrive. Customers can order books online and have them shipped directly through Bookshop.org, a platform that supports independent bookstores. They’re also proud affiliates of Libro.fm, a site offering audiobooks, and plan to sell e-books in the future as digital formats grow in popularity.
Walking through the doors of Magnolia & Main Books, you’re immediately greeted with a warm smile. As a local business owner myself, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside other small businesses and getting to see their story through our "Martinsville Mondays" project. Time and again, I’ve witnessed the true heartbeat of our community: the unwavering love and support local businesses extend to one another.
That’s Traci. That’s Magnolia & Main Books. They are part of the movement that forms the foundation of our local business community.
When you speak with Traci, it’s clear that her passion goes beyond a love for books. Her mission is to create joy, foster memories, and breathe life into our town. She does this not just for herself but to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Thank you, Magnolia & Main, for being our little bookstore—a place of excitement, smiles, and connection in the heart of our town.
