MARTINSVILLE MONDAYS:

Martinsville Mondays: Da Capo Virginia
Before I tell you about Da Capo Virginia, I want to share what this organization means to me as the father of a child with special needs. Whether it’s Inspire, Vivo, or Harmony—every program leads to one word: family.
As special needs parents, it’s easy to feel disconnected, like there’s no place where your child truly belongs. Da Capo changed that for us. Through their partnership with schools, they’ve given us the joy of seeing our daughter, Delilah, perform on stage—something we never thought we’d experience.
Since joining the Vivo program at Albert Harris, Delilah has developed a deep love for music. It brings her peace and joy, and we see that light in her eyes every time she plays or hears a familiar song.
Da Capo has given our daughter a place to belong—and given us, as parents, a gift beyond words. From the beginning of Daydream Photography, they’ve supported our special needs mission. Tracee Prilliman and her team aren’t just partners—they’re family. And we love them dearly.

Since 2006, Da Capo Virginia has been a vibrant force in creating inclusive, transformative musical experiences for students of all backgrounds and abilities. Founded by Tracee Prillaman, this non-profit organization is rooted in the belief that making beautiful music builds beautiful people—and their work proves it every day. Da Capo VA is more than just a music program. It’s a space where diverse learners come together, grow, and thrive through high-quality instruction in music and the arts. Offering everything from choirs and classes to concerts and private child care, Da Capo’s mission is clear: to inspire passion, equip learners through dynamic teaching, and share the life-changing power of music.

Among their standout initiatives is Vivo, a program providing music and arts experiences for students with disabilities aged 2–22, in partnership with school districts across the region. Vivo’s collaborative concerts consistently wow audiences with performances that highlight the power of inclusion and excellence working together.
Their INSPIRE program is a licensed arts-integrated child care center blending academics, social-emotional learning, and creative expression for both neurotypical and neurodiverse students. And their newest initiative, Harmony, brings middle and high schoolers into a next-level choral experience, encouraging artistic growth through dynamic performance.

Tracee reflects that the inspiration behind Da Capo came from a desire to give her own children access to a music program that aligned with values of inclusion, growth, and excellence. “We couldn’t find one—so we created it,” she says.
Da Capo’s proudest moments aren’t measured in applause but in impact. Whether it’s students reaching goals once thought impossible, or families witnessing their children come alive through performance, Da Capo is a place where confidence and creativity flourish.

As the organization expands, particularly through its Vivo program, Da Capo is actively seeking new team members to help lead students with special needs in engaging, inclusive music experiences.Tracee hopes Da Capo’s legacy will be one of authentic transformation: helping students find their voice, build confidence, and share their light with the world through the joy of music and the arts.
